Samsung Galaxy S4 Smartphone
The new Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone is one of the hottest devices on the market. It’s packed with a ton of features and it has a very sleek design. But how does it stack up against other smartphones? We put the Galaxy S4 through its paces to find out.
Design
The Galaxy S4 has a plastic body, but it doesn’t feel cheap. It’s actually quite sturdy and well-built. The phone is also quite thin and light, making it easy to hold and use with one hand.
The front of the Galaxy S4 is dominated by the 5-inch display. There are very thin bezels around the sides of the screen, and the top and bottom bezels are a bit larger. This gives the phone a nice balance when you’re holding it.
Above the display is the earpiece, front-facing camera, and sensors. There are no physical buttons on the front of the phone. Instead, Samsung has opted for capacitive buttons that light up when you need them.
On the right side of the phone, you’ll find the power button and volume rocker. The left side is home to the MicroSD card slot and SIM card tray. The top of the phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack and noise-cancelling microphone. The bottom of the phone has a Micro USB port for charging and data transfer.
The back of the Galaxy S4 is made of plastic, but it has a nice soft-touch finish that makes it comfortable to hold. You’ll find the 13-megapixel camera lens and LED flash in the top-left corner. Near the bottom is a small speaker grille.
Display
The Galaxy S4 has a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. That works out to a pixel density of 441ppi. The display is absolutely gorgeous. Colors are incredibly vibrant and images are razor sharp. The screen is also very bright, making it easy to see even in direct sunlight.
The viewing angles are excellent as well. You can view the screen from just about any angle without losing any color or contrast. The only downside to the display is that it’s a bit of a fingerprint magnet. But that’s something that can be said about most smartphones these days.
Software
The Galaxy S4 comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean pre-installed, along with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface overlay. TouchWiz has been greatly toned down on the Galaxy S4 compared to previous Samsung devices. It’s still not our favorite UI, but it’s much improved. And it’s still packed with tons of features and customization options.
Some of our favorite TouchWiz features include Smart Stay, which keeps the screen on as long as you’re looking at it; Smart Scroll, which lets you scroll through web pages and emails by tilting your head; Air View, which lets you preview emails, photos, and videos by hovering your finger over them; and S Voice Drive, which lets you control your phone hands-free while driving. These are just a few examples of what TouchWiz has to offer.
Nest Learning Thermostat
The third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat is slimmer and sleeker with a bigger, sharper display. It also has new features like Farsight that lights up when it sees you across the room and a Furnace Heads-Up that tells you when your furnace needs maintenance. The Nest Learning Thermostat also has all of the great features that made the previous versions so popular, like auto-schedule, auto-away, leaf icon to help you save energy, and remote control through the Nest app.
Nest Labs started out in 2010 with the mission to “reinvent unloved but important devices like thermostats”. The company’s first product was the Nest Learning Thermostat, which was followed by the Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector, and the Nest Cam indoor security camera. All of these products have been well-received, but the Learning Thermostat is still the flagship product.
The latest version of the Nest Learning Thermostat was released in 2015, and it builds on the success of the previous two versions. The biggest change is the addition of Farsight, which uses a built-in motion sensor and LEDs to light up the display when it sees you across the room. This is handy if you want to see the time or temperature from across the room.
Another new feature is Furnace Heads-Up, which uses the Nest app to tell you when your furnace needs maintenance. This is a great way to keep your furnace running efficiently and avoid costly repairs down the road.
In addition to these new features, the third-generation Nest Learning Thermostat still has all of the great features that made the previous versions so popular. It has a sleek, minimalist design that will look great in any home. The display is large and easy to read, even from across the room.
The Nest Learning Thermostat is also very easy to use. It has an auto-schedule feature that learns your heating and cooling habits over time and creates a custom schedule for you. The auto-away feature saves energy by turning off the heat or air conditioning when no one is home. And the leaf icon appears when you’re saving energy, so you can see at a glance how your actions are helping the environment.
You can control the Nest Learning Thermostat with your voice using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Or you can use the Nest app on your smartphone or tablet to change the temperature, set a schedule, or turn on eco mode. Eco mode saves energy by automatically adjusting the temperature based on whether anyone is home or not.
The Nest Learning Thermostat is a great way to save energy and money on your heating and cooling bills. It’s easy to use and install, and it comes with some great new features like Farsight and Furnace Heads-Up. If you’re looking for a smart thermostat, the Nest Learning Thermostat should be at the top of your list.

Sony PlayStation 4 Console
The PlayStation 4 is Sony’s latest generation video game console, released in November 2013. It competes with Microsoft’s Xbox One and Nintendo’s Wii U and Switch as part of the eighth generation of video game consoles.
Design
The PlayStation 4’s design was inspired by a number of factors, including the company’s desire to create a unified platform that would encompass both games and entertainment, as well as feedback from developers about the capabilities they would like to see in a next-generation console. The console’s design is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, the PlayStation 3, and features an upgraded GPU and a higher CPU clock speed. The PS4 is available in two SKUs: a “standard” model with a 500 GB hard drive, and a “Pro” model with a 1 TB hard drive. Both models are available in black or white.
Controller
The PlayStation 4 ships with a redesigned DualShock 4 controller, which features a built-in touchpad, stereo headset jack, and share button. The DualShock 4 is also compatible with the PlayStation 3, though not all features are supported.
The PlayStation Move motion controller is also compatible with the PS4, though it is not included with the console.
Features
The PlayStation 4 includes several social features, such as the ability to share screenshots and video clips on social networking sites, as well as engage in voice and video chat with friends using the PlayStation Network. The console also allows for remote play of PlayStation 4 games on Sony’s Vita handheld console, and select Xperia smartphones and tablets.
The PS4 also supports playback of Blu-ray discs and DVDs, as well as streaming of video content from various services, including Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and Hulu Plus. The console also has access to a variety of music streaming services, including Pandora, Spotify, and iHeartRadio.
gaming performance
The PlayStation 4 has significantly more powerful hardware than its predecessor, the PlayStation 3. The PS4’s CPU is based on AMD’s Jaguar architecture, while the GPU is derived from AMD’s GCN architecture. This results in approximately 2.3 times the processing power of the PS3. The PS4’s memory subsystem is also significantly upgraded over the PS3, featuring 8 GB of GDDR5 RAM (compared to the PS3’s 256 MB of DDR3 RAM). This results in 176 GB/s of memory bandwidth – nearly twice that of the PS3. In terms of raw computational power, the PS4 has approximately 2 teraflops of processing power (compared to the Xbox One’s 1.32 teraflops).
The end result is that the PlayStation 4 is significantly more powerful than its predecessor, and is capable of delivering better graphics and faster gameplay. In terms of gaming performance, the PS4 is currently ahead of its competitors – the Xbox One and Wii U – though it should be noted that all three consoles are capable of delivering excellent gaming experiences.
Microsoft Xbox One Console
The Xbox One is a home video game console developed by Microsoft. Announced in May 2013, it is the successor to the Xbox 360 and the third base console in the Xbox series of consoles. It was first released in North America, parts of Europe, Australia, and South America in November 2013, and in Japan, China, and other European countries in September 2014. It is the first Xbox game console to be released in China within the country’s 14-year history of the franchise. The Xbox One’s controller was redesigned over the Xbox 360’s, with a redesigned body, D-pad, and triggers capable of delivering directional haptic feedback. The console places an increased emphasis on cloud computing, as well as social networking features through its integrated Xbox Live service (which includes the ability to record and stream gameplay footage). Games can be played off-console via a local area network on supported Windows 10 devices. The console can play Blu-ray Discs, and overlay live television programming from an existing set-top box or a digital tuner for digital terrestrial television with an enhanced program guide. The console optionally included a redesigned Kinect sensor, marketed as the “Kinect 2.0”, providing improved motion tracking and voice recognition.
Microsoft sold approximately 1 million Xbox One consoles within 24 hours of its launch in thirteen markets, including the United States and United Kingdom. By March 2014, Microsoft had shipped 3 million consoles. On January 21, 2016, Microsoft announced that 10 million Xbox One consoles had been shipped; however, later that month reported that it had struggled to meet demand for the system during holiday 2015 due to insufficient stock levels of certain SKUs. In July 2018, Microsoft announced that it was discontinuing production of all Xbox One models except for its current S and X model SKUs; production of all other SKUs ceased at that time.
At launch, all retail Xbox One systems included the 500 GB hard drive internal storage standardly; however, some bundles also included a 1 TB hard drive option. All models could be equipped with external storage via USB. All versions of the Xbox One were initially delivered with a free digital copy of Forza Motorsport 5 while stocks lasted; after availability ran out, digital copies of Zoo Tycoon were made available for free instead. Users were also able to download system software updates from an external storage device if one was connected and formatted for Xbox One use; however this feature was later removed due to reliability issues that resulted in bricking some consoles. Following its announcement at E3 2013 on June 10th that year, various publications were provided with hands-on previews of the console hardware and interface; these demos highlighted additional features such as Game DVR functionality integrated into the Upload Studio app, Skype integration with Kinect for voice calls and gesture control (including Skype group video calls), SmartGlass compatibility allowing mobile devices such as phones or tablets to serve as second screens for added content (such as maps in Halo: Spartan Assault or extra information about TV programs being watched on the console), NFL on Xbox functionality allowing NFL broadcasts to be watched live through the NFL on Xbox app with interactive content such as Fantasy Football or exclusive camera angles not available through traditional television broadcasts, live event viewing through Internet Explorer on Xbox Live with support for full 1080p HD streaming and multitasking between apps while still being able to watch live events simultaneously (such as watching a football game while checking fantasy football statistics at the same time), and support for up to five controllers wirelessly connected at once (with each player having their own avatar character displayed onscreen).
